member of the Hibiscus (mallow) family, okra is grown both for its beautiful flowers and as a vegetable. It needs full sun and warm evenings to grow well. Jing Orange Okra is an Asian heirloom variety. It is a heavy producer of 5-7” reddish okra pods, however they are best picked when they are 3-5”. The stems and veining in the leaves are an attractive red, while the flowers are a creamy white with a burgundy center. Okra likes heat, and this variety can handle some drought once established.

Start indoors 3-4 weeks before 1st frost or outdoors when soil temps reach about 65 degrees. Seeds benefit from overnight soaking prior to planting. Sow seeds 1/2" to 1" deep in rows 3' apart.
