Deserts aren't the only places that have cacti! Scattered around a large portion of eastern North America, the Low Prickly Pear Cactus still carries with it some of the habits of its desert-dwelling relatives, preferring the driest parts of the garden. The stunning bright yellow flowers, loved by pollinators, transition to  bright red, edible fruit ("prickly pears") that are almost as attractive as the flowers that preceded them.
