Verbena hastata is mostly grown for its ornamental appeal and wildlife benefit, but it also has been used in traditional medicine for generations. It is well-known for its preference for moist to wet soils and is often found near water bodies or in wetland settings. It will self-seed but starting the seeds indoors allows for more control over germination and early growth, resulting in healthier plants for your garden.
Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep and transplant to the garden when seedlings are strong.
