Golden alexanders are a favorite for early pollinators and a host plant for several swallowtail butterflies. It tolerates a variety of soils, does well in sun or part shade but likes it a bit moist. Has evergreen foliage. Zizia will freely self-sow but you can cut back the seed heads in summer to control the spread. May not flower in first season. There may be a few blooms in winter. Direct sow in fall or cold stratify for 2-3 months and then direct sow on soil surface.
